Material Girl ⎯ Prahran
Material Girl is a heritage terrace hidden behind High Street in Prahran. Enter via a bluestone laneway and leafy courtyard into a calm, light-filled home shaped with care. Layered, generous and deeply comfortable, it’s a place to settle in quietly, moments from Melbourne’s most established design neighbourhood—where making, eating, and living well have long gone hand in hand.
Positioned within Melbourne’s creative corridor yet quietly removed from its pace, the house offers a rare balance of atmosphere, proximity and calm.

A Heritage Terrace
This Victorian shop terrace was once typical of Melbourne’s older high streets: a working storefront at street level, with rooms above and behind where people lived alongside their trade. Over time, as living shifted away from these buildings, the rooms fell quiet.
Years later, the house became home again. What followed was a gradual return to life through inhabitation: floors restored by hand, walls repainted as the light changed, textiles sewn and adjusted over time, objects kept, re-placed or let go as the house settled.
The work unfolded slowly, shaped by daily use and a quiet pleasure in making things well — in keeping with a long tradition of independent craft and trade that has defined this part of the city for generations.
Material Girl emerged from that overlap.
What exists now is a deeply considered home, shaped by care, craft and personal history, situated within a stretch of High Street long shaped by making, independent making, and how people have lived and worked side by side.
The house is now open to guests.
“A beautiful home in a perfect location. Every corner was a design moment. We didn’t want to leave.”
